Janeene Anne (Miller) Carlisle


Janeene Anne (Miller) Carlisle, 84, passed away Sunday, May 8th, 2022. She was born April 7th, 1938 to Ervin and Audrey (Johnson) Miller in Des Moines, IA.


Janeene attended East High School in Des Moines, graduating in 1956, followed by the Iowa School of Beauty to be a Cosmetologist. Janeene met her husband Larry at a bowling alley and they got married on Valentine’s Day in 1959. Together they had 2 daughters, Corriene and Nadine.


Janeene was very active in East High Reunion preparations, and enjoyed numerous luncheons with the girls. She was an active member of the Ankeny YMCA for many years, swimming with her “Penguin” friends and then going out for coffee.


She worked at Ankeny Central Pet Clinic (Ankeny Animal & Avian Clinic) with Dr’s D.O & Scott Faulkner for over 12 years.


Larry and Janeene lived in Ankeny for 22 years. They both retired and moved to Polk City in October of 1990 and enjoyed all the fishing they could do. Janeene moved to Mill Pond Independent Living in 2017.


Janeene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Larry, and daughter Corriene.

Janeene is survived by her daughter Nadine Baker, of Altoona, her 5 grandchildren, C.J. (Kat) Leaf, Kendra Cross, Dustin Leaf, Shane (Kelsey) Cross, & Tanna (Waylon) Yeutter, 7 Great Grandchildren, Cayden, Lakota, Braxton, Ella, Audrey, Keaton, and Jaxson; sister, Beverly Hartgrave of Kansas, 2 nieces, Jolene McManigal, Jennie (Caleb) Woolman, both of Kansas, and a nephew, Scott (Debbie) Hartgrave of Tennessee. Janeene is also survived by her “Adopted” daughter Angela Luttenegger & her family, and many, many friends. Janeene didn’t know a stranger.


Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, June 26, 2022, at 2:00 pm, at the VFW Post 9662 (1309 NE 66th Ave, Des Moines, IA 50313).
