James Lee Patterson passed away unexpectedly at 76 years old on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
Jimmie was born January 9, 1949. A Des Moines native and veteran. Jim was full of life. A unique and special soul that would go unbelievably out of his way to help all the people he cared about. You could always count on Jimmie for anything. He was a yes-man from the sense he would always lend a hand to make it happen within his power, no matter what the circumstances were for people. The kind of loyalty and integrity that is nearly extinct into today’s society. Jim was quick witted, playful and funny. Known for his constant one liners and always had a new joke to crack when you saw him.
Throughout his life Jim enjoyed tending bar, working on various projects from construction, maintenance and yard work. Jim worked with Iowa Blue Chip Properties, a family owned and operated real estate business in Des Moines and was considered a family member and dear friend to the Kinley’s for nearly 20 years. Always protecting and watching over grandma (Carolyn Kinley). An uncle and father figure, best friend and an irreplaceable right-hand man to Jim Kinley. A mentor, grandfather figure to Vinnie Kinley and his buddies. Jim enjoyed watching sports listening to music, biking, walking, the outdoors and having drinks and hanging with friends. He was the life of the party. He had a passion for cars, motorcycles helping others and making people laugh.
Jim was very close, loved and adored spending time with his sweetie Leiren Olson, was close to her family, including her mother, grandmother and dog Nelly belly. Jim was also very close and loved Leanne Hellickson and her family. Jim held a very special place in his heart for what he claimed was the love of his life “Colleen.” Jim is survived by numerous other friends and loved ones and his sidekick cat Mikey. When you heard him shout the words “Hey slim” you knew it was Uncle Jim. Jim had so many nick names. Uncle Jim, Jimmie 2 times, Pimpstick Patterson, Pimpy, JMFP, and the Jimo will forever be missed but never forgotten.
He is preceded into death by his mother who he loved dearly and extremely close with and also his lifelong friend Gary Green.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date. Please check our website for details later.
