Hildred Lavell Gordy died January 13, 2023, at her home at Independence Village Senior Living in Ankeny, Iowa. She was born April 9, 1935, to Everett Harold and Reva Marie (Padget) Wilkinson near Troy, Iowa where she graduated from high school in 1952.
On March 7, 1953, she married Claude Royce Gordy of Bloomfield who passed away October 26, 1973. Surviving are their four children: Claude (Terri) of Martinez, GA; Karen (David) Brown of Byron, IL; Roger (Vicki) of Naples, FL; and Kala (Ted) Shipley of Ankeny. Also, special friend, Jack Pirtle; nine grandchildren: Andrea (Ian) Mielke, Cason Gordy, Kelli Hale, Justin (Amber) Brown, Cliff Gordy, Nick (Luuly) Gordy, Eli (Jordan) Shipley, Kallen (Luke) Powell and Gunnar (Megan) Shipley; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Leon (Judy) Wilkinson, Hanna Kirby, Ladonna Piper, Lavenia (Marion) Davis, Lucinda Knock, and Loren (Terri) Wilkinson; and, brothers and sisters-in-law: Marge Colgan, Janet (Jerry) Wheelock, Melvin (Linda) Gordy, Kenneth (Cindy) Gordy, Diane (John) Hollenbeck, Judy Gordy-Avis, and Patti Gordy. Hildred was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Laverda Rupe, parents-in-law Claude and Lola Gordy, sister-in-laws Marilyn Lyons and Ann Gordy, brothers-in-law Jack Kirby, Bernard Piper, Ron Knock, Donnie Lyons, Delwin Colgan and Ronald Gordy.
Hildred retired after 23 years at the U.S. Postal Service. She had served on the board of directors of the Davis County Senior Citizen Housing, Davis County Fine Arts Council and Davis County Extension Council. She also was a past member of the Davis County Hospital Auxiliary and Chapter B, P.E.O.
At Hildred’s request, a private family service will be held at a later date at Barker Cemetery, next to her husband, Royce. Memorials may be made to Davis County Dollars for Scholars or Davis County Fine Arts Council. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude for the extraordinary care and support provided by the staff members at Independence Village Senior Living and St. Croix Hospice, both in Ankeny.
