Harold Edwin Nieuwenhuis, 77, passed away at the Taylor House in Des Moines on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. He was born in Valentine, Nebraska on March 22, 1944 to John & Belle (Engel) Nieuwenhuis.
Harold enjoyed being outdoors, doing puzzles and spending time with his beloved dogs. He had the amazing ability to be able to create anything with his hands, and he was an accomplished sketch artist. Harold also loved following the pursuits and accomplishments of his grandkids.
He is survived by two sons, Nick (Michelle) of Indianola, Kary (Barb) of Winterset, two grandchildren, Marissa & Nicolas of Indianola, and a sister, Blanche Nelson of San Tan Valley, Arizona. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Bernita & Violet Nieuwenhuis and his beloved dogs, Simon & Piper.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Easter Lake. Memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association.
