Gordon Dale Bates, 86, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at MercyOne Hospice House, Johnston, IA. He died of natural causes, surrounded by his family. Gordon was born on June 9, 1935, in Oakland, IA to Coyd and Dorothy Bates. He married Pat Burns on October 22, 1980. He enjoyed living in Davenport, IA for more than 50 years and has lived in West Des Moines, IA for the last 3 years.
Gordon and Pat have four daughters - Becca and her husband, Jeremy Thiele, St. Joseph, MI; Emily and her husband, Jason Olson, Clive, IA; Kate and her husband, Jeff Wierson, Waukee, IA; Megan and her husband, Ben Engle, Moline, IL.
He was the proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren - Hosanna, Makylah, Judah, Kaelsten, Jonah, Zoe, Jackson, Shiloh, Taelyn, Maddux, Bennett, Stella, Addison and Alexander.
He is survived by his siblings - Shirley Stow, Marlene Wirth, Keralyn Bolliger and Ron Bates. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Marge Hayes and Larry Bates.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 pm at New Point Church, 3201 99th St. Urbandale, IA. Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021 at 10:30 am. Service also at New Point Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to New Point Church - Food Rescue Fund, 3201 99th St. Urbandale, IA.
