The soul of Evelyn Bisanti has departed from her temporary home on this earth to the next stage of her eternal existence with our Lord and Savior. Evelyn had a peaceful death as she passed away in her sleep with her son by her side.
Evelyn, age 91, was born in Des Moines, IA. She graduated from St. John's grade school and then attended St. Joseph Academy - graduating from there in 1947.
Evelyn lived her whole life in Des Moines, other than the year she spent with her husband, Louis, who was stationed in Washington D.C. while serving his country with United States Air Force. Lou was then sent to Korea to fight in the Korean War for all the free world but most of all the poor Korean people who were under attack from a repressive communist regime. During the time that Lou was in Korea, Evelyn came back to Des Moines with son Paul, to live with her parents, Louis and Carmella Fortino and her two younger brothers Joe and Louis Jr. Her older brother Jim was married to Betty and was out on his own by this time.
When Lou's four years with the Air Force were up, he took his honorable discharge as a staff-sergeant and he was a proud recipient of the Air Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Lou then came to Des Moines and Lou and Evelyn resumed their married life together. Altogether they were happily married for 55 years until Lou passed from this life in 2005.
Evelyn was a wonderful homemaker and made excellent meals and desserts. She loved entertaining family and friends and having them over for dinner or to socialize.
After her children were grown Evelyn began a word processing enterprise. During this time in her life her greatest joy was when she was with her grandchildren and all six of them enjoyed spending time with her and their grandfather. Most of the grandchildren were fortunate enough to be able to spend a lot of time with their grandparents.
Those surviving Evelyn are her son Paul (Linda) Bisanti, and daughter Judy (Rick) Cordaro; grandchildren Dr. James ( Kathryn) Bisanti, Ricky (Whitney) Cordaro, Joe (Melissa) Cordaro, Angela (Steve) Crowley, Gina Bisanti and David Cordaro. Also surviving are her brother Joe Fortino and sister-in-law Catherine Atzeni, 11 great-grandchildren, 7 nieces, 4 nephews, many cousins, great nephews and great nieces, and friends.
We cannot give enough thanks to Lauri and the hospice team, Jaci and the whole staff at Eden Crest on Beaver, Dr. Olmstead, and those who helped to make her last days as enjoyable and comfortable as they possibly could be.
In lieu of flowers or donations you may have a Mass said for her at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Des Moines.
Evelyn had a great life and she would like to thank all of you who were a part of her life and those of you who let her be a part of your life. Most of all she would like to thank God for a great life, for all the blessings and gifts that he bestowed upon her while in this life and for giving her the knowledge and fortitude to make the right decisions to be in the right place in the next life.
Rather than goodbye Evelyn would like to say, "see you later."
