Duane Long passed away Thursday, May 25th 2023 at Iowa Lutheran Unity Point Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of the late Harlan and Esta Long of Harrison Co., Missouri. He was married for more than 47 years to Marilyn Probst Long of their home in Urbandale, Iowa. Duane was a computer analyst and a teacher of math and computer science for many years at several schools, including North Harrison High School (Eagleville, MO), Granger Middle School (Granger, IA,) Des Moines Area Community College and AIB College of Business (Des Moines, IA) and for Software First Inc Training Center, of which he was founder and owner. He was an outstanding teacher and loved (and was loved by) thousands of students. In addition to his wife, Duane is survived by a son Dr Duane Long, Jr. and 3 daughters Lisa Mikel, Monica Gillenwater, and Lorinda Boyle and families. His step-daughter Aime Beeks passed away one year ago. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service is planned for Monday, June 5th at 3:00 pm at Urbandale United Church of Christ, 3530 70th St., Urbandale, IA. It will be live-streamed and available on Facebook for those not able to attend the service in person.
