Donald Ivan Craun, age 89, of Boone, Iowa, passed away on December 30, 2025, at the Boone County Hospital in Boone, Iowa.
Donald was born on September 25, 1936, in Randalia, Iowa, to Melvin and Lavon (Clemons) Craun. On August 16, 1958, he was united in marriage to Joyce Martin in Omaha, Nebraska. Together, Donald and Joyce built a loving home in Boone, Iowa, where they raised their six children.
Donald worked for Boone Freight Lines, dedicating many years of service before retiring. He was a proud member of The American Legion, the VFW and the Moose Lodge. A man who loved the outdoors, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and cookouts with friends and family. Music was a constant joy in his life, especially bluegrass and old country—and dancing with Joyce remained one of his most cherished memories. He also took great pride in watching his grandson race and attending countless ball games for his grandchildren.
Donald is survived by his children: Brinda Van Cannon of Boone; Mike (Jackie) Craun of Boone; Eva (Jerry) Walters of Boone; Karen Grove of Boxholm; Jeff Craun (Shannon Taylor) of Ames; and Carol Ann (David) Musser of Boone; along with 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Barb Cory, Sandra (Robert) Burdick, and Shirley Dillon; his brother Alvin Craun; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Craun; his parents; and son-in-law Donald Grove and his sister, Marcella Prine.
Donald will be remembered for his laughter, his love of family, and the joy he found in life’s simple pleasures. His legacy lives on in the many hearts he touched.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to gather and honor Donald’s memory.
