Dianne Louise (Jorgensen) Jones, born on January 22, 1952, in Guthrie Center, Iowa, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024, due to stage 4 brain cancer. Her diagnosis came swiftly on July 9th, and she passed away peacefully after many tear-filled visits from family and friends. Even in her final days, Dianne exhibited the same strength, bravery and quick wit that she was known for.
Dianne lived in Ankeny, Iowa for most of her adult life and was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. Growing up in Guthrie Center, Iowa, she graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1970 and Iowa Western Community College in 1972.
Dianne married Gary Jones on May 18, 1985, and they were blessed with two children, Ashley Nelsen of Ankeny and Ryan Jones of Knoxville. She worked at Northwestern Bell after college, but then became a stay-at-home mother for 10 years while her children were young. They made the best memories taking trips, instilling a spirit of independence and “it’s okay to take the scenic route” in her kids. Later, she worked at Ankeny High School for 21 years with the majority of the time as the athletic director's secretary; ran the little league concession stand for several years; volunteered with the Girl Scouts; and worked part-time at the Ankeny DMACC testing center until April 2024.
Dianne was always up for an adventure and spontaneous good time. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, hiking, reading, and watching her grandkids play soccer. She especially loved to travel, try new foods, and explore new cultures. She equally loved the mountains and the beach. She enjoyed movie theater popcorn, carving pumpkins, and giving piles of gifts to bring the Christmas cheer to her loved ones. Dianne had many friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her generosity of both her finances and her time were felt.
Dianne was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Doris Jorgensen of Guthrie Center, and her brother, Richard Jorgensen II. She is survived by her daughter Ashley (Justin) Nelsen, son Ryan Jones (Megan Gardner), grandchildren Rylee, Elianna, and Jace, and her big fat cat Oscar.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Friday, September 6th, 2024, at the United Methodist Church in Guthrie Center, followed by burial services at the Union Cemetery in Guthrie Center and lunch at the church. A celebration of life will also be held that night at the Ankeny Clipper starting at 5:00pm. The funeral, burial and celebration of life are welcome to all who knew and loved her or her family.
Dianne will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
