Debra M. Shepherd, 71, passed away at home on October 24, 2023. Her wife of 30 years by her side. Deb was born on January 12, 1952, in Des Moines, Iowa to Faye (McGauhey) Bolinger and Warren Shepherd. She married Cynthia Conte and became stepmother to her two children. She spent her professional working years as an Addiction Specialist before retiring. Debbie was an avid reader and movie enthusiast. She also loved the outdoors. She enjoyed riding her motorcycle on beautiful days and camping on crisp nights. Deb took great joy in watching the crazy squirrels outside the front window, while always keeping an eye out for her cardinals. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, her youngest brother, and her faithful companion dog Copper. She is survived by her wife, Cindy; her brother, David (Mary) Shepherd; her stepbrothers, Gerald (Kathy) Bolinger and Jeff (Patty) Bolinger; her step-daughter, Sarah (Nick) Downey; her step-son, Stephen Conte; her grandson, Tyler Downey; as well as her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was also survived by sweet Maggie, the family Shih Tzu. To celebrate Deb’s life, we ask that all memorials be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
