Clifford Ted Nelson

Clifford Ted Nelson, the son of Walter (Ted) and Ina Littlefield Nelson was born February 17, 1929, at Exira Iowa. He died July 23rd, 2023, at Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 94.

He received his education in the Audubon County schools and attended Audubon High School. He was a member of the U.S.A.F serving from May 1948 to May 1952 with three years in Germany. He worked at various jobs with 28 years as an U.S.D.A. food inspector retiring November 30, 1993, at Omaha, Nebraska.


He was united in marriage August 6, 1959, to Peggy Jorgensen at Des Moines, Iowa. They resided in Exira, Manning, Perry and Avoca, Iowa before moving to Omaha, Nebraska. After retiring in Omaha, they moved in December 1993 to Grimes, Iowa, where they lived until August 2013, when they moved to an apartment in Des Moines, Iowa and then to Grinnell, Iowa, in April 2019. In October of 2022, Cliff and Peggy moved to an independent living apartment at Ramsey Village in Des Moines.


He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughters Erin and Elizabeth Nelson, great grand-daughter Miranda Knueven, sister Phyllis Sheer, daughter-in-law Linda Turner, father and mother-in-law Lloyd and Bernice Jorgensen and brothers-in-law Edwin Sheer, Mike McConnell and Emmert Christensen.


He is survived by his wife Peggy Nelson of Des Moines, his sons David Turner of Galena, Illinois, Danny Andersen and wife Linda Capcara of Phoenix, Arizona, Dale Nelson and wife Lesli of Pella, Iowa, his daughters Linda and husband Gary Knueven of Manning, Iowa, Lisa Nelson of La Grange Park, Illinois, and Lori and husband Mike Novelli of Ferryville, Wisconsin. Sister Darlene McConnell of Atlantic, Iowa, nineteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.


According to his wishes, his body has been cremated and no funeral services will be held. Interment will be held at the Exira Cemetery at a later date.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for Saturday, September 2nd from 1 – 4 at Ramsey Village.
