Charles (Chuck) Reed, 80, of Des Moines, died in his home on Monday, February 6, 2023.
Chuck was born October 11, 1942, in Franklin County. He grew up on a family farm near Sheffied, Iowa. After graduating from Sheffield High School as a three-sport athlete and Iowa state track champion, he enrolled at Graceland College in Lamoni. After one year, Chuck transferred to Drake University.
He graduated with a degree in pharmacy and began his career at Uptown Pharmacy in Des Moines. After a few years he formed a partnership with the late Tom Vlassis. The two owned and managed Franklin Drug in Des Moines and Omega Pharmacy in Urbandale. Chuck completed his professional career as a pharmacist with Dahl’s.
Chuck was a lifelong hunter and fisherman who found his sanctuary outdoors. He spent his adult life as a resident of Des Moines. Those left to cherish Chuck’s memory include his sister, Marilyn Haines, his daughter Sarah Reed (John Gruening) and son Charlie Reed; seven grandchildren, Lauren, Tristram, Deidra, Cal, Shae, Xavier, Blythe; and one great-granddaughter, Aminda. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Bernadine, his brother, Clayton, and sister, Debbie.
