Betty Wells, 92, passed away December 16, 2022.
Betty was born on January 28, 1930, to Clemet and Zola (Moody) Owens in Neosho Missouri. She graduated from Neosho High School. Betty met Oscar Wells while they both worked at Goswick Bag Company in Webb City, Mo. Betty and Oscar married and later moved to Des Moines, IA, in 1953.
Betty then worked at Look Magazine until it’s closure. She began working for Down Computer Services (now known as CDS). She worked there for more than 30 years, serving as a valued team leader. Betty was active with the area chapter of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA), serving in many leadership positions including president during her many years of membership. She also enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society. After her retirement, she worked at the Fort Des Moines Church of Christ, where she attended for many years.
Family was important to Betty and Oscar, and they had five children: Jan, Rick, Donna, Dean and Terry. Betty was supportive of her children and their activities, volunteering in many ways, including serving as PTA president at Howe Elementary School.
Betty loved being outside and tending to her beautiful flower gardens and visiting with her neighbors while on her walks.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband Oscar, and sons Louis Dean Wells and Terry Wells, and Son-in-Law Michael Sherman.
Betty’s house was well-known as the place to gather for the Wells family, and she hosted countless holiday celebrations and family milestones. She is lovingly survived, remembered, and celebrated by her children Jan Ramstad (Mark), Rick Wells (Linda), Donna Sherman (Michael), as well as12 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
