Barbara Lough Prenosil, age 101, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at Calvin Community. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Barbara Lough Prenosil was born on May 12, 1919 in Nevada, Iowa to Harry Lough and Inez Robertson Lough. Her grandfather operated Lough & Sons Livery in Nevada until the advent of automobiles. Barb’s father worked at the livery, and then farmed in rural Story County, where Barb grew up.
Barbara married Rex Kelce in 1952, and they had a daughter, Diane. They divorced, and Barbara later married Joe Prenosil. Joe adopted Barb’s daughter Diane, and Barb helped raise Diane and Joe’s three children. Barbara was widowed in 1968 when Joe passed away.
After having been a homemaker, Barb then worked for the State of Iowa at the Dept. of Environmental Quality, and later worked for Younker Brothers.
Barb had an abiding faith in God through Christ, and was a long-time member of Immanuel United Methodist Church.
Barbara is survived by her daughter Diane (Geoff) Laurenzo of Des Moines, stepson Joe (Lori) Prenosil of Austin MN, daughter-in-law Linda Nelson Prenosil of Tampa, FL, stepdaughter Roseanne of Idaho, grandchildren Michelle (Jim) Jagow of Minnesota, Brad (Jessie) Prenosil of MN, Jamie (Sandy) Prenosil of Florida, and Laura (Chris) Nash of Des Moines. Great-grandchildren Sydney and Jacob of MN, Brianna of MN, Sofia, Luke, and Nathan of FL, and Haley of IA.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her stepson John Prenosil, and her granddaughter Tina.
