Barbara A. Egbers, 83, of Des Moines, passed away January 9, 2021 at her sister’s home in Des Moines, where she was being cared for. Barbara was born August 8, 1937 in Quincy, IL to John Kenneth Sr. and Mary Egbers.
Barbara grew up in Quincy and graduated from Quincy High School before joining the U.S. Army in 1956. She proudly served for 9 years as an Army photographer. During her active duty she was stationed in Germany for several years. After her active duty service, she continued to serve in the Army Reserve until she retired.
Barbara loved life and being around family. She treasured her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John K. Egbers, Jr., and a niece, Erin Egbers.
Barbara is survived by three brothers, Gene (Sharon) Egbers of Quincy, IL, Carl (Terry) Egbers of Byron, MN, Marvin (Joyce) Egbers of Des Moines and one sister, Mary (Bob) McCarthy of Des Moines. Her nephews David (Sonna) Egbers of Quincy, IL, John W. Egbers of Quincy, IL, Daniel McCarthy of Corvallis, OR, and Mike (Jordann) Egbers of Elkhart, IA; nieces Kathy Hawk, Barb (Steve) Crabtree, Debbie Dooley, and Tammy Egbers all of Quincy, IL, Lori Chayet of Des Moines, IA, Elissa (Justin) Strunk and Andrea Mullen both of Rochester, MN, and Cathy (Blake) Smith of Altoona, IA; and many beloved great-nieces and nephews.
Barbara will be cremated per her request. Due to the pandemic, services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Lung Association.
