Jacob Dawson, age 55 of Des Moines, passed away on November 17, 2020. He battled cancer along with other medical complications including an amputation.
He was born to James and Shirley Dawson on January 1st, 1965. No, he was not the first baby of the year. Jake was the youngest of his siblings, predeceased by his brother Scott Dawson and surviving sisters: Melody Todd and Sandra Stanley.
Jake lived in West Des Moines most of his life except when attending college at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Technology Degree and worked most of his adult life at Iowa Methodist Hospital.
He never married but Jake loved his family. Particularly his great nieces; Lilly, Lea, Anna Bell, and Sophia. There were many times he would let them paint his fingernails and put on makeup. The girls would always say, “Jake you look so pretty”.
He adopted a pair of cockatiels that had a baby right before they died. Jake raised the baby and creatively named him Baby Bird. While Bird didn’t speak English, he always “talked” with Jake and they both became very attached to each other.
Jake didn’t want a funeral, he’s actually pretty shy. If you care to leave a message on his Facebook page, his family would enjoy reading it.
